Hot Air Balloon Safari Over the Masai Mara

As the first light of dawn breaks over the African savanna, your balloon lifts silently above the Masai Mara plains. Beneath you, the day’s first game begins — lions padding to their shady spots, elephants moving to the river, wildebeest and zebra grazing in the golden morning light.

The Masai Mara hot air balloon experience is widely considered one of the world’s great travel moments — and with good reason. After your flight, a white-uniformed ground crew sets up a full champagne breakfast on the plains, served from silver-topped tables. Pure magic.

Your Balloon Safari Step-by-Step

Early Wake-up

Wake-up call at 5:00 AM. Light tea/coffee and a pre-dawn drive to the launch site.

Inflation

Watch in wonder as the enormous balloon is inflated on the Mara plains — a spectacular sight in itself.

Take Off

Lift off as the sun breaks the horizon — the Mara plains stretch endlessly below you in every direction.

The Flight

45–60 minutes of silent, magical floating over the Masai Mara. Your pilot points out wildlife below.

Bush Breakfast

Land gently, receive your flight certificate, and enjoy a full champagne breakfast laid out in the bush.

Practical Information

Cost

Approximately $490–$550 per adult. This includes the flight, champagne breakfast, ground transfers to/from launch site, and your flight certificate. Children must be 7+ years old.

Best Time

Available year-round, but the most spectacular views are during the Great Migration (July–October) when the plains below are black with wildebeest and zebra.

What to Wear

Layered clothing (it's cold at pre-dawn), closed-toe shoes, and a light jacket. Bring your camera with extra batteries — the light is extraordinary.

Important Notes

Weather dependent — flights may be rescheduled due to wind. Maximum 16 passengers per balloon. Minimum age 7 years. Not suitable for passengers with serious back or knee problems.

Operators

We work with the two licensed balloon operators in the Masai Mara: Governors' Balloon Safaris and Transworld Safaris. Both are highly experienced with excellent safety records.
